A mill which pays 10p; meadow, 2 acres; woodland, 60 acres; pasture 4 furlongs long and 1 furlong wide. 10 cattle; 150 sheep; . Value 30s; when Roger aquired it, 40s. .

The name Skilgate: is said to mean the opening on the boundary.

THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST. JOHN

The main body of the church was rebuilt by a local builder (from Brompton Regis) in 1872, incorporating some original material. The tower is thought to be very old and it houses a ring of 5 bells dating from 1609. Some restoration work on the building was carried out in 1933 and electricity installed in 1972.
