The name Nettlecombe: is said to mean valley with nettles.

THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST. MARY
The church is thought to date from the 12th century and was dedicated by the 15th century. Additions were made to the original building and much restoration work was carried out in 1820, 1858 and 1870. The nineteenth century restoration works included the replacement of some of the 16th century benches but some remain. 20th century improvements included an electrical installation.
