In lordship 3 ploughs:12 slaves; 2 1/2 hides. 27 villagers and 22 smallholders with 10 ploughs & 2 1/2 hides. A mill which pays 3s; meadow, 12 acres; woodland, 24 acres; pasture 4 leagues long and 2 leagues wide. 1 cob; 16 cattle;10 pigs; 300 sheep. Value when he aquired it, 100s; now £6.

The name Minehead: is said to mean hill or headland.

THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST. MICHAEL

The church dates from the 14th century and the additions made up to the 16th century, provided the church much as seen today. A stately tower has a projecting staircase turret. The tower houses 10 bells which are the heaviest in West Somerset. One of the special treasures which can be seen in the church is- THE FAMOUS MISSAL of RICHARD FITZJAMES
